Scaevola Spinescens

Spiny Fan-Flower

The spiny fan-flower is a straggly bush growing to about 1m high. The unusual one-sided fan shaped flowers have five petals with fringed margins and an overarching anther. They are strongly perfumed; uncertain whether the aroma is pleasant or foetid. The leaves are spade shaped and a pale bluish-green. The branches are woody and carry spines with the leaf clusters.

The fruits are considered as bush tucker. They are sweet tasting. For this reason the plant is sometimes known as currant bush.
