Myoporum Platycarpum

Sugarwood, False Sandalwood

This tree grows to over 6m in height. Its wood is quite soft and sometimes powdery in the centre. It is similar to the sandalwood and produces a pleasant sandalwood smell when burnt. The leaves are lanceolate with slightly dentate edges on the upper half. The small flowers are attractive five petals, with four hooked stamens and a straight style. Two petals are usually fused together and the remainder have reddish spots. The flower is identical to that of myoporum parvifolium.
