Myoporum Platycarpum |
|
Sugarwood, False Sandalwood
This tree grows to over 6m in
height.
Its wood is quite soft and sometimes powdery in the centre. It is
similar to the
sandalwood and produces a pleasant sandalwood smell when burnt. The
leaves are lanceolate with slightly dentate edges on the upper half.
The small flowers are attractive five petals, with four hooked stamens
and a straight style. Two petals are usually fused together and the
remainder have reddish spots. The flower is identical to that of
myoporum parvifolium.
